How Does a 120W Solar Tent Work? From Panels to Charging Ports
See how LINKSOLAR’s 120W tent connects twelve roof panels to USB and DC outputs, what the port limits mean, and why nighttime use needs storage.
The LINKSOLAR 120W solar tent collects sunlight through twelve roof panels. Their wiring feeds one junction box through a DC7909 connection. The box then supplies compatible devices through USB-A, USB-C, or DC5521 outputs. The tent and roof do not store solar energy; nighttime use requires separate compatible storage.

The power path is: sunlight → twelve panels → DC7909 connection → junction box → compatible device or external storage. Each part has a different job, so it helps to look at them separately.
Twelve panels make up the 120W rating
There are three 10W panels on each of the roof's four sides: 4 × 3 × 10W = 120W total rated panel power. That does not mean all four sides will reach their rated output at once at a real campsite.
You do not have to spread a separate panel across the ground to use this roof. You do still need to consider shade. Choose an open pitch when conditions allow and keep the solar surface clean. Actual output changes with sunlight, orientation, temperature, and connected loads.
Fit the removable roof after inflating the tent
The solar roof is a separate part, fitted by hand. Inflate and secure the tent body, then place the roof and fasten it at its attachment points. The built-in pump inflates the air beams; it does not install the solar roof.

When packing, remove the roof before deflating the tent body. Keep cables out of folds and avoid sharply bending the solar panels backward.
DC7909 and DC5521 have different roles
The roof's DC7909 connection supplies the junction-box input. The DC5521 connection is an output on the box. They serve different purposes and are not interchangeable simply because both are round DC connectors.
For any external device, check voltage, current, power, polarity, and charging requirements. Connector fit alone is not enough to establish a safe, compatible connection. We do not claim an unverified higher-power route that bypasses the supplied box.
Choose an output that matches your equipment
| Junction-box output | Individual rated limit |
|---|---|
| USB-A, two ports | Up to 18W per port |
| USB-C, one port | Up to 18W |
| DC5521, one output | Up to 50W |

These values are limits, not continuous-output guarantees. Several devices connected at once share the sunlight-dependent input. Adding the individual port ratings together does not establish the box's simultaneous total output.
If a phone charges slowly, check sunlight and shade, then the cable and device compatibility. A larger panel rating cannot make an 18W USB-C port deliver laptop-class high-power charging.
Store daytime energy if you need it after sunset
A compatible power bank or portable power station can store energy collected during the day. Check its input specifications before connecting it. Storage is not included with the tent, and the separate pump battery only runs the inflation pump.
For a laptop, use compatible external storage with an output and charging protocol that meet the laptop's requirements. Do not assume the tent's USB-C connector provides the same power as your laptop's wall charger.
Common questions
Why is the roof rated 120W if the DC output is limited to 50W?
The 120W figure is the sum of the twelve panels' ratings. The 50W figure is the DC5521 port's output limit. The roof's rating does not override the junction box or the connected device's limits.
Can DC7909 connect directly to any power station?
No. Compatibility depends on the power station's input voltage range, current and power limits, polarity, and cable wiring. A matching connector is not enough, and an unverified direct connection should not be treated as an approved bypass.
Does it work on cloudy days?
It may still produce some power, but output usually drops. Charging can slow or stop when light is insufficient. Do not plan cloudy-day use around the full 120W panel rating.
Does the tent include a battery for nighttime charging?
No solar storage battery is included. The supplied battery is for the inflation pump. To keep lights or other equipment running after sunset, use separately purchased compatible storage.
