Short answer: Hang a tent light from a secure overhead gear loop when you want broader interior light. Set it lower on a stable surface when you are sorting gear, reading a map, or working at a camp table. Keep the brightest setting out of direct eye level, leave the tent exit clear, and use a mounting point intended to carry gear.

Placement often matters more than simply switching a light to its highest setting. A compact panel light hung too low can shine directly into your eyes. Put it too far to one side and a sleeping bag, backpack, or person may block the useful light. Start with the task: do you need general tent lighting or light aimed at your hands?

For general tent lighting, place the light higher

If your tent has a designated gear loop or lantern hook near the roof, use the included hanging cord there. A centered, higher position lets the light travel downward across more of the interior. Make sure the cord cannot tangle with people or gear, and do not hang the light from loose mesh, a zipper pull, or fabric that was not designed to carry weight.

The LINKSOLAR light weighs about 4.48 ounces (127 g). It offers high, medium, and low brightness settings plus SOS. Use SOS when you need an emergency attention signal; it is not a normal interior lighting mode.

For close work, use the rotating stand

The handle also works as a stand. Place the light on a stable, dry surface and angle it toward a map, cooking prep area, or the gear you are organizing. Keep it away from open flame and hot cookware. A lower, directed position can keep light out of a tentmate's eyes and reduce stray light around the campsite.

This model is not magnetic. Do not expect it to attach to a vehicle body or metal tent pole. Use the cord, the rotating handle, or another secure support that does not damage the tent.

The charging position is different from the lighting position

At night, point the light surface toward the area you want to see. During daytime solar charging, turn the panel on the back toward unobstructed sunlight. Pointing the light face toward the sun does not mean the solar panel is getting useful exposure.

For a more reliable trip, charge the 1500mAh battery by USB-C before leaving, then use solar as a daytime top-up. The reference charge time is about 2.3 hours by USB-C and about 5.5 hours by solar in suitable sunlight. Solar charging will vary with weather, shade, season, and panel angle.

Do not mistake the USB-C input for a phone charger

The USB-C port on this light accepts power; it does not send power to a phone or another device. This is a common source of confusion because some larger camping lanterns do include power-bank outputs. Always check the word “input” or “output” in the specifications instead of relying on the connector shape.

The light has three brightness levels and SOS. LINKSOLAR is not publishing a lumen or color-temperature claim without a frozen test specification.

The rubber port cover also does not make the entire product waterproof. There is no confirmed public IP rating for this model. Keep the port dry, avoid immersion and prolonged rain, and wait until the port is fully dry before connecting a cable.

A simple tent-light setup

  1. Before dark, identify a real gear loop or lantern hook and keep the exit area free of loose cords.
  2. Use the level that lets you finish setup safely, then lower it when full brightness is no longer needed.
  3. Keep a light within reach at night without placing it where someone can kick or crush it.
  4. During the day, take the light outside and face the rear panel toward unobstructed sunlight.
  5. If the light gets wet, wipe it dry and do not connect USB-C until the port is completely dry.
  6. Carry an independent backup light for longer trips or locations with unreliable sun.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to hang a tent light or put it on the floor?

Hang it higher for general interior lighting. Use the stand on a table or other stable surface when you need directed light for a close task. The floor is more likely to create shadows or put the light where it can be kicked.

Can I mount this light with a magnet?

No. This model has no magnetic mount. Use the hanging cord or rotating handle/stand.

Should I use SOS as a regular flashing mode?

No. SOS is intended to attract attention in an emergency. Use high, medium, or low for normal tent lighting.

Can I leave it hanging outside in the rain?

That is not recommended. The product has no confirmed public IP rating. Avoid prolonged rain and immersion, and keep the USB-C port dry.
